Final Project: Creating a Program for an
* This is Lesson #23 if used as part of the overall unit on Printing & Imaging Technology.
This lesson completes the final Desktop Publishing Project, but may be taught as a
stand-alone project if desired.
Lesson Duration:
Approximately one to two 90-minute class periods
[Lesson length is subjective and will vary from instructor to instructor]
Project overview:
Days 1: Understand criteria for final project
Days 2: Students complete the design for their program
Performance Objective: Upon completion of this assignment, the student will submit a
completed ‘Program’ for a special event. The completed Program, which incorporates all of the
skills and concepts from this course, is the final Desktop Publishing Project for this course.
Specific Objectives:
1. Make any necessary or recommended corrections to the final proofs.
2. Complete the layout for the event program and submit the final project for evaluation.

(i) using word processing, graphics, or drawing programs; and
(H) demonstrate knowledge and appropriate use of hardware components, software
programs, and storage devices.

Independent Practice (LSI Quadrant III):
Students use industry standard desktop publishing software to meet all of the criteria
to complete the Event Program for their final project.
Students will print and submit their Event Programs for final evaluation.
Summary

Review (LSI Quadrants I and IV):
Review the criteria for creating the final project.
Review the criteria for enhancing students’ Event Programs.
Observe students’ progress, ask questions, and encourage creativity as they lay out
all of the elements for their final project.
Evaluation

Informal Assessment (LSI Quadrant III):
Teacher will monitor students’ progress while they use the desktop publishing
software to make necessary corrections and finalize their Event Programs.
The teacher will make sure student understands all of the criteria for creating their
programs.

Formal Assessment (LSI Quadrant III, IV):
The teacher will use the Event Program Rubric to evaluate final programs submitted
by the students.
Extension

Extension/Enrichment (LSI Quadrant IV):
Students may wish to submit a colorized digital (PDF) version of their program,
especially if they submitted a black and white printed version for their final project
due to cost restraints.
