Stillwater Elementary School 2014-2015 Profile 11530 320th Ave NE Carnation, Washington 98014 (425) 844-4680 www.sw.riverview.wednet.edu Welcome to Stillwater Elementary! Our school year is off to a great start, and we are excited for the opportunities ahead. Our primary focus this year is to create a school environment that prepares and inspires students to take that next academic step in their lives. Upon exiting from Stillwater, we expect that every child is ready and excited to take on the new challenges that they will face at the next level. We establish high, concrete goals and the expectation that all students will meet them. Our Professional Learning Community - made up of teachers, support staff, and parents - is critical to the success of this vision. I believe the teachers and staff at Stillwater are exceptional, and I'm proud of their dedication to developing and nurturing young minds. They are committed to the belief that every child has the potential to thrive academically, and they are devoted to serving the needs of our students. At Stillwater, our actions as educators are guided by 4 critical questions: 1. 2. 3. 4. What do we want students to learn? How will we know if they have learned it? What will we do if they don't? What will we do if they walk into the room knowing it? We value collaboration and team work, and we are committed to ensuring that the curriculum at Stillwater is in alignment with the Common Core State Standards. Stillwater is a place where learning and growth happens for students and teachers alike A place where teachers are equally apt to find opportunities to improve the quality of their instruction through the review and analysis of results and performance. We are committed to professional development and to the alignment of our staff development with the four critical questions of a professional learning community. It is this focus that guides our efforts to ensure students are provided with the opportunity to succeed and excel. Stillwater Elementary works as a team. From the classroom, to the office, to the lunch room, to extended day programs, and to our custodial staff, their commitment makes our school not only function efficiently, but makes us feel like a family. We receive enormous support from the community in the form of volunteers, and the PTSA is vital with funding special projects and fun family events. Stillwater is a great place for kids where our students develop a love for learning and acquire the skills necessary for future success. Financial Resources Stillwater Elementary School operates on an average annual budget of approximately $31,000 based on a full-time equivalent student enrollment of approximately 430. Funds are distributed in the areas of Learning Resource Center, general office supplies, paper and copying, textbooks, and teacher resource supplies as needed for the basic operation of the school. 3 Student Services Student Safety Join PTSA! Student safety is a high priority. As you become a part of the Stillwater community, we will alert you of the safe driving rules we strongly enforce. We want all of our students to arrive at school and depart at the end of the day in a safe manner. One way for parents to become involved at Stillwater is to join PTSA. For only $10.00 per individual or $18.00 per family, PTSA members help to make a difference for our students. Many entertaining activities happen throughout the year such as skating parties, an ice cream social, and a sock-hop. We take other safety precautions as well. Practiced fire and earthquake drills help keep us on our toes in case of emergency. We have a lockdown procedure in place. Thanks to PTSA we have an emergency preparedness container to help us through a major disaster. We hope we never have to use it, but are prepared just in case. Just as important, PTSA supports Stillwater financially. By having fundraisers, PTSA is able to purchase teacher supplies, playground equipment, field trip transportation, computers, assemblies, and many other items not always affordable in the school budget.
