UCL CENTRE FOR LANGUAGES & INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION Evening Courses Modern Greek Level 2 (Common European Framework Level A1) Prerequisite for entry Completed level 1+ or the equivalent. Term duration 10 x 2-hour classes. Progression After 20 hours students may progress to level 2+ Aims and Objectives - To enable students further develop their skills (in listening, speaking, reading and writing) in Modern Greek in a variety of everyday situations; To further develop awareness of aspects of Greek culture within a European / global context. - A communicative method of teaching / learning is fostered, although aspects of grammar are covered as well. Students are aided to reflect on their learning skills and experiential / autonomous learning is encouraged, including the use of interactive ICT material. Functions & Course Content - Habitual actions and daily routine Hobbies and spare time activities Public places and shops: asking and giving directions Counting: using ordinal numbers Ordering and paying for a drink or a meal in a restaurant etc... Going to the supermarket Asking for a permission Giving simple excuses Linguistic Structures - Verbs: present tense and simple imperative /simple future/ active, reflexive and passive verbs / introduction to the continuous subjunctive and the continuous future tense / the verb υπάρχει / there is UCL Centre for Languages & International Education Evening Courses 1 - Nouns: genders / singular and plural / nominative and accusative cases Adjectives –ος/-η/-ο (singular and plural / concord with nouns) Pronouns: demonstrative, interrogative, relative etc...
