Current Prerequisite/Corequisite/Catalog Description: Meeting academic, socialization, health, motor skills,
communication needs in inclusive setting. Working with paraprofessionals to provide community-based instruction
assessment observation record-keeping, IEPS and ITPS, lesson plans. Prerequisite: SPED 43060 and admission to advanced
study.
Catalog Description (edited): Delivery and adaptation of evidence based practices for students with moderate to
intensive educational needs. An emphasis is placed on instruction of functional academic and life skills within naturalistic
contexts.

Explain the purpose for this proposal:
The purpose of this proposal is to minimize the overlap between this course and other special education courses, including:
SPED 43060 and 53060, Curriculum Methods Classroom Instruction: Mild_Moderate Intervention; SPED 43020 and 53020,
Assessment in Special Education; and SPED 43080 and 53080, Technology in SPED. The proposed change will also provide
students pursuing Moderate to Intensive licensure with more specific Moderate to Intensive content necessary to meet the
needs of this population of students. This proposal includes changes to the catalogue description and the content outline.

This proposal does not affect courses, program requirements or student in our unit. This has been and will continue to be a
required course for SPED MDIN majors. They are the only students who take this course.
