Dr. Palmer The College of Public Health has been informed that our proposal to OBR to assign PH10002 Introduction to Global Health as an Ohio Transfer Module (OTM) course has been denied. The only feedback we received in as follows: Course is very narrowly focused and designed to prepare students for the technical area of public health. This is not a standard introductory, lower division, general education requirement for the social science. There is no application of social inquiry such and the use of theoretical analysis. We do not believe that this course is “very narrowly focused” and it is introductory material that has been recommended by the Association of American Colleges and Universities as a curriculum that should be available to all undergraduates. It is not technical at all by Public Health standards as out more technical classes are at the upper division level. We do, however, feel that this interdisciplinary course spans social sciences, natural sciences and humanities and does not fit precisely into the OTM categories. There is no interdisciplinary designation in the OTM. Our plan is to resubmit to OBR with our best appeal. While we pursue OTM status for this course, we are resubmitting this to URCC for approval to move forward as a Kent core class without the OTM stipulation. I have met with Provost Diacon and he is willing for this to move forward absent the OTM designation if the College of Public Health appeals. Thank you (and your committee) for this reconsideration.
