SURE POWER BATTERY SEPARATOR INTERIM OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS By-passing the battery separator is a safe and effective method for customers needing an interim solution while they await a replacement battery separator. TOOLS REQUIRED: Basic tool kit (including combination wrench), electrical tape & cable ties. STEP 1. Before starting any of the following procedure, ensure that the negative terminals of both the main and any auxiliary batteries are disconnected. The negative terminal can be identified by the minus (-) symbol on the battery case. Other identifiers may be a black terminal cover or the physically smaller of the two terminals on the battery. STEP 2. Using a 13mm ring combination wrench, remove the two nuts that retain the positive (+) cables to the main posts on the Sure Power separator. STEP 3. Once both nuts are removed, remove one of the positive (+) cables and place it onto the other post with the other positive (+) cable. This effectively bypasses the relay and joins both batteries together in series. Note: Either post may be used. STEP 4. Replace the nuts on both posts and tighten firmly. STEP 5. Disconnect any wires attached to the three spade terminals and insulate the ends of the cables with electrical tape, then secure in a safe place with cable ties. A complete and correctly reworked separator will not have any wires attached to the three spade terminals. STEP 6. Reconnect the negative (-) cables back to the negative (-) terminals of both the main and auxiliary batteries. Ensure all connections are tightened and secure. NOTE: With both positive (+) terminals connected on the one post of the Sure Power separator, both the main and auxiliary batteries receive charge from the vehicles alternator at the same time. This means that any accessory that is connected to the auxiliary battery, i.e. a 12 volt fridge, lighting, caravan power etc. will be drawing power from both batteries. Therefore, it is possible to run both the auxiliary and main batteries flat. It is recommended not to use any accessories until the separator is replaced and the system returned to its normal configuration. For more information, please contact Sure Power, Inc.
