Project: The Chandelier Lounge and Bar at The Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas, Nev.
The Chandelier bar and lounge at The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Resort is an elegant, multi-tiered, immersive environment.
Comprised of over seven million crystals, this kinetic chandelier invites guests to experience different vantage points as they
move through the space. The chandelier, which is 44 feet high and roughly 75 feet wide, is surrounded by the casino circulation
on two levels, and contains five separate bars and lounges that seem to hover within the ethereal space. The lighting design
creates the illusion of a single internally lit chandelier while supplementing it with light to achieve sparkle in every delicate strand.
In order to achieve this, the design team chose Lumière 203 luminaires for its low profile and clean simplicity. The 150 Lumière
203 fixtures uplight all vertical drapes of the crystal while RSA multi-head fixtures are installed vertically in the perimeter soffit to
provide multiple points of warm, beautiful front light. Each lighting position was studied in plan and section and then mocked-up
onsite to review precise aiming angles.

Project: Vail Townhome, Vail, Colo.
Designed as an addition to the neighboring unit, this high-end remodel embodies mountain rustic living at its finest. Large
windows in the sitting room take advantage of the expansive views of Vail Ski Resort. The large central stair is the cornerstone of
the project and was designed to look like an old mineshaft. Architectural finishes consist of stone and reclaimed timber creating
a warm, rustic lodge character in the space. Cooper Iris P3MR downlights were chosen for their adjustability and wide range
of trim options as well as performance and reliability. P3MR-E3AA downlights were used to accent artwork and architectural
materials throughout the home, while P3MR-E3MR downlights were used for general illumination. Limitations from existing
structure and restrictions from fire ratings dictated fixture quantity and placement. A lighting control system keeps light fixtures
dimmed to reduce energy use and extend lamp life. Lighting scenes were set with the owner for easy control of the common
spaces.

Project: Dorsey & Whitney, LLP, Denver, Colo.
When the international law firm Dorsey & Whitney, LLP relocated its Denver office to the hip and historical Lower Downtown
(LoDo) district, it embraced an entirely new culture inspired by the vibrancy of the urban landscape and community connectivity.
As such, the design team’s challenge was to move beyond the predisposition that law offices be stuffy and pretentious. The team
created a collaborative space that is connected to the outdoors through light, airy spaces warmed by elements and textures
found in nature. This was achieved by the predominant use of concealed and integrated elements of illumination to enhance the
features of the space, rather than decorative luminaires.
A variety of Cooper Lighting products were selected based on photometric performance and aesthetic integration into the clean
and rectilinear architectural design. The Corelite Cove luminaire was selected for its adjustability with the Plus 5 aiming system
and shadow-free performance in the continuous run applications. Likewise, the RSA Mini Quiet Ceiling luminaires were chosen
for art accent areas for their minimal appearance in the ceiling, various lamping options and adjustability. The Corelite Element
was used in the open office spaces because of its wide uplight distribution in conjunction with the limited glare from direct
illumination and clean rectilinear form that complements the architectural lines. The Metalux Ovation series was selected for
private offices based on its simple aesthetic and proven performance.

Project: Indian Wells Residence, Indian Wells, Calif.
Located in Indian Wells Calif., this iconic home utilizes some of the most energy efficient material, products and systems
available to the general public such as fuel cells for hot water generation and solar panels. With more than a quarter of a mile
of io linear LED lighting, this project consumes a fraction of the power of incandescent sources used only a few years ago. And
while understanding this source, its limitations and contribution took time, the end-result as it relates to the home’s environment
is priceless. The residence makes good use of day lighting using clerestory windows perched up high on the walls designed
to introduce natural light into the home during the day. The lighting designers looked for ways to mimic nature so throughout
the home they introduced architectural coves just below the clerestories. Within these coves are linear LED strip lights with
asymmetric beamspreads. The light emitted from the coves is broadcast across the room, enveloping the inhabitants in a warm
glow. As an added feature, the interior light radiates out from the home as a “lantern effect” at night, the reverse of what takes
place during the day. Other challenges were the high ceilings and the vast art collection in areas with significant glazing. The
designers paid close attention to cut-offs and light trespass. As with most modern homes, line-of-sight issues are of paramount
importance to consider and the designers studied these challenges closely and arrived at a glare free environment.

Project: Dinosaur Hall at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Los Angeles, Calif.
The image of 70-foot long creatures roaming the same earth we call home is almost unfathomable for many. The lighting design
at the Dinosaur Hall in the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County brings these creatures to life by adding a sense of
drama to the specimens in this 14,000 square foot exhibit, all while adhering to California’s stringent energy efficiency standards.
By bringing clarity and definition to the exhibit’s 300 fossils and 20 full-body specimens, the dinosaurs and sea creatures from
millions of years ago become a tangible reality for visitors.
