My SOC Contest Submission Guidelines
SOC.american.edu and its affiliated websites, including but not limited to www.youtube.com/AUSOCMedia , etc. (herein referred to as “SOC.american.edu”) welcome submissions of User Content from the entire American University community to the My SOC Contest, including students, faculty, alumni and staff.
User Content may be related to academic courses, or done independently.
By submitting your User Content to the School of Communication (herein “SOC”), you agree to abide and be bound by AMERICAN.EDU TERMS AND CONDITIONS , and
the following submission guidelines.
You also agree to provide true, accurate, current and complete information about yourself and the submission. Content may be submitted through social media using the hashtag #MySOC or by email to socwebteam@american.edu
. Social media accounts must be public for the submission to be viable.
User Content accepted includes:

Video
•
Audio
In order to be considered for the My SOC contest, User Content or social media
account must include:
•
Your name
•
Contact information (social media account acceptable, as long as account owner is identifiable)
•
Your relationship to SOC
•
Title or other brief description of the work
•
Listing of any and all collaborators
•
Identify all third party content (including music and text) and either specify if you have a license to include the third party content or give a detailed explanation as why your inclusion of the third party work is consistent with the fair use doctrine under copyright law.
•
Associated website links (if applicable).
In addition to the AMERICAN.EDU TERMS AND CONDITIONS , you understand that you grant the SOC permission to copy, post and distribute your User Content on SOC web pages. Specifically, you agree that your User Content submitted to the SOC will be made freely available worldwide via the World Wide Web. You also grant SOC permission to translate the work to any medium or format for the purpose of preservation, and to make more than one copy of the work for purposes of security, back-‐up, and preservation.
You represent and warrant that:

You hold the necessary rights, and have secured the necessary releases and permission forms required to include any third party content, and to grant the rights granted herein;

The User Content does not violate anyone else’s intellectual property;
•
Your permission granted herein does not violate or infringe upon the rights of any third party;
•
Any inclusion of copyrighted material into the User Content was made with written permission or is consistent with the fair use doctrine under copyright law and any such third-‐party materials is clearly identified and acknowledged within the text or content of the User Content.

You have the authority to agree to these terms and conditions.

The University’s inclusion and use of the User Content will not violate any copyright, privacy, proprietary or personal rights of any third party.

You have not in any manner disposed of any of the rights herein granted to the University or granted any rights, adverse to or inconsistent therewith; nor are there any rights outstanding which would diminish, encumber, or impair the full enjoyment or exercise of the rights herein granted the
University.
You also agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless AU from and against any and all claims or liability, including costs and attorneys fees, arising from or in connection with your use of AU web sites, the User Content you provided, or failure to abide by the AMERICAN.EDU TERMS AND CONDITIONS and these submission guidelines.
Editorial policy
There is no obligation of any kind for SOC.american.edu to accept, post, or promote
submitted content
SOC.american.edu and its editors reserve the right to remove any content from the site, to change the associated keywords, title, description, for any reasons, in their
sole discretion.
