BIOGRAPHY Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi Sharil was appointed Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on 16 June 2008 and was appointed Acting Chairman of MCMC on 1 May 2009. Sharil first joined MCMC in May 2000 to head the Industry Development initiatives. He then left for private sector. In his second tour of duty in MCMC in an executive capacity, Sharil brings with him a considerable number of years of experience in the legal field, communications and multimedia industry, as well as experience in the financial advisory and strategy consulting areas. Sharil was Executive Director and Head of Strategy in a leading boutique investment advisory and strategic consulting firm prior to being invited to return to the MCMC as the COO. In the international arena, Sharil has worked closely with the main international organizations in the Internet field, such as the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU), the World Bank, Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT), Pacific Islands Telecommunications Associations (PITA), Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation(CTO), International Institute of Communications (IIC) to name a few, and is currently the immediate past Chairman of the Government Advisory Committee (GAC) to ICANN. Sharil holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from University college of Wales, Aberystwyth and qualified as a Barrister from Gray’s Inn, England and Wales (UK).
