Fifth Light Technology VOIP Lighting Software Featured in Cisco Innovation
Center in Toronto
The Fifth Light VOIP solution helps Cisco achieve vision of buildings that are smarter, more
interconnected and more energy efficient.
PEACHTREE CITY, GA, July 24, 2012 – Cooper Controls, a market leader in energy management,
architectural and theatrical lighting controls, is pleased to announce that the Fifth Light Voice-Over IP
(VOIP) Lighting Software is featured in the new Cisco Innovation Center (CIC). Additionally the software
can be found in every building identified as a Cisco Smart+Connected building in Toronto, Canada.
Using the Fifth Light VOIP lighting software, a diverse group of building occupants, from office workers
to facility managers and sustainability managers, can control the lights and monitor the performance of a
building’s lighting system through a Cisco IP phone, smart phone and tablet.
The improved controllability, made possible by the convergence of lighting control systems and
telecommunications technology, is exactly the type of collaboration that embodies the Cisco vision of
how buildings today can be smarter, more interconnected and more energy efficient.
“The Fifth Light VOIP lighting software can create significant energy savings by enabling office workers
to adjust their overhead lights from their phone,” explains Ron Gordon, Business Development Manager
for Smart+Connected Real Estate at Cisco Canada. “We’ve seen many customers that are quite happy
with overhead lights at 75 percent, immediately reducing the energy use of those lights by 25 percent.
Since the lights are controlled through the phone, tenants can save money by not buying traditional light
switches or dimmers, which enables them to avoid the associated wiring and installation costs of those
products as well.”
Located at Cisco Canadian Headquarters in Toronto, the Cisco Innovation Center is a showcase for the
latest in smarter building automation and a powerful platform upon which industry-leading manufacturers
can partner to create new solutions in interconnectivity and efficiency. Officially opened on June 25,

particularly innovative and interconnected have been identified and are referred to as Cisco
Smart+Connected buildings. The Fifth Light VOIP lighting software is incorporated into each of these
impressively automated buildings, including the PwC Tower at 18 York Street, George Brown College
new Waterfront campus, and the Evergreen Brick Works facility.
