Wildlife Inventory Internship An intern position with the City of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Department of Parks and Recreation, Natural Area Preservation is available. No previous experience required. POSSIBLE RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with Natural Area Preservation Inventory Staff to: Conduct field work within wildlife inventory programs, especially those pertaining to herpetology (the study of reptiles and amphibians) Assist in habitat improvement projects and wildlife structure construction Distinguish between native and non-native flora and fauna Update and create new photo monitoring points Keep detailed, accurate records of all work performed Assist with data entry and management Interact with the public and partners to complete wildlife tasks Other potential tasks as assigned or needed DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Background in biology, natural resource management, or other environmental/natural science discipline Excellent interpersonal skills suitable for working with crew, volunteers, and public Ability to work with minimal direct field supervision Willingness to spend time split between field (90%) and office duties (10%) Ability to perform potentially strenuous manual labor outdoors in all weather condition Ability to provide own transportation Basic computer and office skills DATES OF INTERNSHIP: Typically, March-August; M-F; Flexible, including nontraditional, hours COMPENSATION: Unpaid or work-study, if applicable; Reference Letter from Field Biologist TO APPLY: Send resume, brief cover letter, and list of three references to Patrick Terry, Field Biologist, napinventory@a2gov.org, Subject: Wildlife Inventory Intern.
