WhatarethedeadlinesandhowdoIcontractacourseforHonors?
YoumustsubmitthecompletedpaperworktotheHonorsCollegebyOct15orFeb15.
Todothis,youneedtoallowtimetodiscusspossibleprojectswiththeinstructorofthe
course,draftaproposalfortheproject,andgetapprovalfromaBiologyHonorsAdvisor
(Dr.LiepmanorDr.Judd).
• Contactyourinstructorduringthefirstweekofclasstolether/himknowthat
youwouldliketocontractthecourseforHonorscredit.
• Dropbyyourinstructor’sofficehourstodiscusspossibleprojects.We
encourageyoucomeequippedtothismeetingwithtopicsorideasthatinterest
youandarerelatedtothecoursematerial(seebelowforsomeideas).Yourgoal
istoidentifyaprojectbythesecondorthirdweekofclass.
• Draftabriefproposaloftheproject,andgetyourinstructortosigntheContract.
• ScheduleameetingwithaBiologyHonorsAdvisor(ordropbyduringtheir
officehours)topresentyourideaandrequestapproval.Thisshouldbeonor
beforeOctober1orFebruary1–donotwaituntilthelastminutetosubmitan

Whatisthepurposeofcontractingacourse?
Thegoalofcontractingacourseistochallengeyourselfanddelveintothecourse
materialmoredeeply.Thecontractisanagreementbetweenyouandtheinstructoron
whattypeofprojectyouwillundertake.
WhataresomeexamplesofexamplesofpastHonorscontractprojects:
• AttendtheBiologyDepartmentSeminarsandwriteareport,or
• Developanewlaborfieldactivityrelatedtothecourse,or
• Choosearesearchtopicthatinterestsyouandcreateawebsite,poster,talk,or
papertotheinstructor,theclass,orsomeothergroup.Ifpossible,exploringa
topicrelevanttoyourHonorsThesiscanbeespeciallybeneficial.
