Problems
• Drainage channels are inadequate to carry
runoff from a 5- year- frequency rainfall
• Flooding impacts residential structures and
businesses
• At least one death due to flooding
Opportunities
• Reduce hazard to life and property
• Reduce flood damages and other related
costs
• Restore, enhance, and/ or preserve
environmental aspects of the area
• Protect, preserve or minimize impacts on
significant historical and cultural resources

to protect it from development and restore
it to natural conditions
• Rich in historical, archaeological, and
ecological significance

• Largest remaining ceremonial mound in
the Tampa Bay region
• Existing mangrove wetland habitat is
suffering from increasing infestation of
exotic vegetation
Restoration of 2.7 Acres

• Restoring a sand/ shell berm to natural
grade
• Installing culverts under an existing road
to provide tidal connection
• Re-planting selective areas with native
vegetation.
