COMPLETE ONLY THE REMAINING PARTS OF SECTION B THAT CONCERN THE REVISIONS CHECKED ABOVE. FOR ASSISTANCE CONTACT THE COURSE AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT OFFICE. A. Rationale for Revision: GEOG 376, Geographic Information Systems Analysis, is being restructured. There is a recognized need by faculty that the spatial analysis material currently taught in GEOG 476 should be taught in GEOG 376. The main reason for this is that the material currently taught in GEOG 476 is a natural continuation of GEOG 276 (Principles of Geographic Information Systems) and if taken immediately following GEOG 276, would provide students with a better foundation in basic GIS concepts and techniques without the current lapse that is now being experienced, as a result of them having to study geodatabases, which is the current focus of GEOG 376. By switching the contents of the current GEOG 476 to GEOG 376, students will benefit from better sequencing of course material. The new title of the course is intended to remove current ambiguities about the content of the course. B. Course Information 1. a) Current Subject Code and Course Number: GEOG 376 b) (If new) Proposed Subject Code and Course Number: 2. a) Current Course Title: Geographic Information Systems Analysis b) (If new) Proposed Course Title: Spatial Analysis 3. a) Current Credit Hours: 3 b) (If new) Proposed Credit Hours: c) (If new) 4. a) Current Catalog Description: A more detailed presentation of theories and procedures associated with geographic information systems. Emphasis will be on data models and advanced techniques in data automation, database management and spatial analysis. Students will be exposed to a broad range of functionalities within ArcGIS to conduct GIS analyses, including Miller, Course Revision, Sept. 09 ArcView and ArcEditor for the analysis and management of spatial data, GeoDatabases for managing personal and enterprise GIS and ArcIMS for dispatching GIS information on Internet or Intranet. b) (If new) Proposed Catalog Description (Limit to approximately 50 words): Intermediate concepts and techniques in vector and raster GIS. Topics include thematic mapping, exploratory spatial data analysis, use of inferential statistics in GIS, point pattern analysis, regression modeling in GIS, modeling environmental and human geographic processes, surface interpolation and terrain analysis, map algebra, and network analysis. Prerequisite: GEOG 276 or departmental permission. 5. Method of Delivery (Check all that apply.) Current Proposed a. Standard (lecture/lab) x a.
