Proposal to Revise Program
Reading Minor and Language Arts Minor (B.A.)
Not Passed at the meeting of December 12, 2013, because there was no COE faculty vote on the proposal, raising questions about faculty input, and
because the proposal is not clear concerning what is meant by “substitute” in the proposed revision for the Reading Minor (students in the Reading minor
can substitute those courses or only those who are also minoring in the Language Arts Minor?) (Motion to Not Pass: 6 for, 0 against, 1 abstention). One
suggestion to make this clear to students was to create a separate list of Reading Minor courses for students also minoring in Language Arts.
Passed (7 for, 1 against, 2 abstentions)
B. College of Arts and Sciences
AAAS
Request for New Course
AFC244 Dimensions of Racism (Perspectives On a Diverse World)
At the meeting of November 7, 2013, this course was proposed as AFC 243 with the same title. The following text chronicles the reasons for which it
was tabled: “Tabled (11 for, 0 against, 1 abstention) because 1) the proposal lacks the required syllabus and bibliography, 2) to enable a discussion with
SAC and PLSC over potential impacts to existing courses on the same topic (ANTH/SOCL214, PLSC215, PLSC242, and PLSC243), and 3) to encourage
an Africology disciplinary focus on this interdisciplinary subject. There was also a comment that if intended to be included in programs, then Program
Revision proposals must also be submitted.”
Approved (9 for, 0 against, 1 abstention)
