Call to order (3:30) II. Minutes approved from 2015-09-17 (Jacobs, Dumitrascu). (Vote: 5-0-1) III. Previous Business a. COT - CNST 220 - Design Manage Build - New Course i. Guest speaker James Stein in attendance to address concerns ii. Comments: 1. Suggestion to provide points for safety as a positive incentive rather than taking away points for lack of safety. 2. Suggestion to add an end of project summation in addition to the midterm summation 3. Prof. Stein agrees with both suggestions and will incorporate them into the proposal iii. HHS - HLAD 200 - Introduction to Epidemiology – Revision i. Comment: Method of delivery needs to be checked on submission form ii. Motion to approve HLAD 200 with comment above (Moore, McIntyre) iii. Vote 6-0-0 - Motion carries d. HHS - SPMT MS- Program Revision i. Guest speaker Brenda Reimer in attendance to address concerns ii. Committee members raised questions with respect to the need for new faculty, a summary of the need for the program, budgetary impacts, and the need for accreditation iii. Reimer addressed the questions and will add a summary outlining the need of the program in the proposal. iv. Additional comment: Method of delivery needs to be checked (p 13, SMGT 502) on submission form v. Motion to approve SPMT MS Program revision with comments above (Moore, McIntyre) vi. Vote 6-0-0 – Motion carries 1 IV. New proposals a. CAS - COB - Data Science and Analytics (DSA) – New Interdisciplinary Program i. William Sverdlik in attendance to address concerns ii. A lengthy discussion regarding the program resulted in several concerns being raised by the committee. iii. Motion to table pending more information & explanation (Guthrie, McIntyre). The following issues need to be addressed: 1. Concerns about the release time, job description, and home department/college of the program coordinator 2. Concerns about where the program will be housed (department and college) 3. Concerns about how program changes will be made across colleges (COT and COB) and which input system will be used. iv. Vote: 4-0-2 - Proposal tabled b. COB - IS 385 – Data Warehousing New Course (part of DSA program proposal) i. Comments: 1. Section B-8 and B-12D of application - prerequisites need to be clarified with respect to when department permission is required. If it’s always (or sometimes) required, check “yes” in section B12D 2. Topics covered in this course were part of the previous IS 410 course. IS 410 is being split into this course and a ‘new’ IS 410. Suggestion to renumber/rename the ‘new’ IS 410 to reflect the new focus and to minimize student and transcript confusion. ii. Motion to approve course (Jacobs, Moore) ii. Vote: 6-0-0 – Motion carries d. COB - IS 410 – Business Intelligence - Course Revision i. Motion to table pending clarification (McIntyre, Ryker) ii. Clarification is needed in the following areas: 1. Need to check boxes on application regarding which features of the course are being revised. 2. Course number should be changed to reflect change in focus, or a rationale submitted for keeping the same course number and not proposing this as a new course. a. Concerns about student confusion b. Concerns about student transcripts listing ‘old’ or ‘new’ IS 410, which would not be the same course. 2 iii. Vote: 6-0-0 – Proposal tabled e. COB - IS 420 – Social Media Network Analysis - New Course (part of DSA program) i. Comments: 1. Textbook should be listed in the syllabus 2. Add details to the syllabus regarding what the assignments and exams entail 3. Verify that no prerequisites are required since this is a 400 level course ii. Motion to approve with comments above (Moore, McIntyre) iii. Vote 6-0-0 – Motion carries f. COSC 462 – Introduction to Information Retrieval - New Course (part of DSA program) i. Comments: 1. Syllabus includes several ‘notes to self.’ A complete syllabus needs to be submitted. 2. Add detail to the syllabus about the final assessment (exam, paper, project, etc) 3. A clarification of the requirements for the assignments should be included in the syllabus ii. Motion to table pending submission of complete syllabus addressing issues above (Jacobs, Ryker) iii. COSC 473 – Big Data II - New Course (refers to DSA program proposal) i. Comments: 1. Prerequisites should reflect approved Big Data I course 2. Include detail in the syllabus about the required work and how students are evaluated. 3. Add detail to the syllabus about the final assessment 4. Due to the uniqueness and size of this proposal, there was no time available for its discussion. In addition, although the proposal states a September 10 submission date, the committee did not receive it until the beginning of October. ii.
