Title
DoIT Labs User Eligibility Policy
1.0 Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to define those persons authorized to access computing resources within the labs
maintained by DoIT.
2.0 Scope
The scope of this policy includes all persons attempting to access computing resources within the DoIT Computing
Labs and print kiosks distributed across campus.
3.0 Policy
To remain in compliance with the licensing of the software available on lab computers, access to these machines is
limited to current students and current and emeritus faculty and staff. Students who are not enrolled in classes but
require access because they are actively engaged in research or course completion may be granted access upon
emailed request from their dean, academic department head or faculty advisor.
Access to the computing labs is a privilege. Anyone disturbing other users, abusing or tampering with equipment, or
violating policies and guidelines will be asked to leave and may be prohibited from future use of the facilities.
4.0 Responsibility for Implementation
The Director of Desktop and Classroom Technology is responsible for the implementation of this policy.
5.0 Enforcement
Any employee found to violate federal or State of Michigan laws, EMU policies, procedures or standards of
conduct, will be subject to disciplinary action under University policy. Any student found to violate federal or State
of Michigan laws, EMU policies, procedures or standards of conduct, will be subject to disciplinary action under
EMU’s Student Code of Conduct. Any suspected violation of state or federal laws will be reported to the appropriate
legal authority for investigation.
The University reserves the right to protect its electronic resources from threats of immediate harm. This may
include activities such as disconnecting an offending computer system from the campus network, terminating a
running job on a computer system, or taking other action.
