ANNOUNCEMENTS • Call for nominations to serve on the School of Forest Resources Promotion, Merit, and Tenure Committee. The person elected will serve through June 30, 2012, the remainder of David Briggs term on the Committee. Dr. Briggs will retire on December 31, 2011. Nominations should be sent to Nevada by noon on Wednesday January 4, 2012 for consideration at the January 10, 2012 Faculty Meeting. Very important. Please consider carefully self-nominations and nominations. • Work Planning Sessions are being scheduled during the Winter Break. Please respond to an email you should have received from Nevada to schedule your appointment with Dr. Hinckley. David Campbell has updated each faculty member’s database with the most current information available. The official link to the database is: https://www.cfr.washington.edu/PMT/ You should update your teaching plans through Autumn Quarter 2014. Accurate teaching plans assist time schedule preparation. FACULTY ACTIONS • Proposed Emeritus Professor appointment for David Briggs Tom Hinckley moved and Graham Allan seconded the motion that David Briggs should be appointed as Emeritus Professor. The faculty voted to approve this appointment. The results of the vote are on file in the Director’s office. • Proposed Visiting Associate Professor appointment for Guenther Carlos Krieger Filho Doug Sprugel moved and Ivan Eastin seconded the motion that Guenther Carlos Krieger Filho be appointed as a Visiting Associate Professor. This appointment is sponsored by Ernesto Alvarado. Dr. Filho is an Associate Professor of thermodynamics and combustion at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He has collaborated with Dr. Alvarado on an Amazon Forest Combustion project. During his sabbatical in SFR he will work on fire fuel models and equations. The faculty voted to approve this appointment. The results of the vote are on file in the Director’s office. • Proposed Visiting Associate Professor appointment for Terumasa Takahashi Tom Hinckley moved and Frank Greulich seconded the motion that Terumasa Takahashi be appointed as a Visiting Associate Professor. This appointment is sponsored by Darlene Zabowski. Dr. Takahashi is an Associate Professor in the School of Horticulture at Chiba University in Japan. His research focus includes soil carbon sequestration, compost additions and biogeochemical processes in soils. It is anticipated that he will cooperate on projects involving soil carbon and nitrogen. He plans to develop an urban soil project while he is here. He may also provide seminars on his research. The faculty voted to approve this appointment. The results of the vote are on file in the Director’s office.
