Princeton/Somerset storm drainage improvement project YOUR STORM WATER FEES AT WORK November 18, 2011 Dear Resident, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services held its first public meeting on October 20, 2011 at Freedom Park for the Princeton/Somerset Storm Drainage Improvement Project. The goals of this project are to reduce flooding of streets and structures, as well as reduce erosion along the stream and channel (by stabilization) where needed. The meeting provided the opportunity to present the results of the existing conditions analysis and receive resident input and suggested solutions. Meeting highlights: • Project Manager Susan Tolan welcomed the attendees, introduced the project team and explained the history as well as the purpose of the project. • Patrick Blandford, Project Manager for our design consultant HDR, presented the results of the existing conditions analysis. 1. Additional catch basins are needed in the streets. 2. Majority of the downstream system is inadequate to pass 10-year flows without surcharging the system. 3. Several structures are potentially impacted by flooding. • Tolan explained that HDR will use the information collected at the public meeting to finalize the existing conditions analysis report. This will provide the baseline assessment for potential design solutions. A preferred solution will be presented at the next public meeting. • A question/answer session was held.
