01.04.2012 PRESS RELEASE Woolworths Jobs Fact Sheet Founded in 1924 Woolworths is the second largest private employer in Australia and Australia’s largest retailer. ¾ In November 2011 Woolworths announced it would create 10,000 jobs during the financial year. Broken down by state; NSW 2,642, QLD 2,168, VIC 2,952, SA&NT 506, WA 923, TAS 162 and New Zealand 660. ¾ In 2011 Woolworths invested $60m in learning and development training. ¾ Woolworths employed 3418 trainees and 1713 apprentices in 2011 ¾ Woolworths was the first Australian national retailer to introduce paid maternity leave. 1,545 employees accessed paid parental leave in 2011. ¾ In June 2011 Woolworths launched a company Reconciliation Action Plan: a formal commitment to assist in closing the gap between Indigenous and non‐Indigenous people with a strong focus on employment outcomes. ¾ 615 of Woolworths’ Australian employees identify themselves as indigenous. ¾ 280 people attended pre‐employment programs run in collaboration with Indigenous communities in 2011. ¾ Women constitute 54% of Woolworths’ workforce. ¾ 27.8% of leadership roles are held by women, including three non‐executive female board members. ¾ Woolworths employs 567 people who identify themselves as having a disability. ¾ In 2010 Woolworths partnered with Workfocus, the National Disability Coordinator appointed by the Federal Government. 119 people were employed through the program in 2011. ¾ 7.3% of Woolworths employees are over the age of 55 ¾ 6,172 employees have worked with Woolworths for 25 Years or more. ¾ 84.5% of Woolworths employees are covered by enterprise agreements. ‐ends‐
