CODE MECKLENBURG COUNTY ENGINEERING & BUILDING STANDARDS DEPARTMENT INTERPRETATION VOLUME: 2002 North Carolina Residential Code for One and Two-Family Dwellings SUBJECT: Driveways/Walks REVIEWED BY: Consistency Team QUESTION: Are driveways and walks required to be poured at final inspection? CODE REFERENCE: Sections R401, R403 and exception. ANSWER: Generally, no. Concrete drives and walks are not required to be poured at the time of the final inspection unless the absence of the poured concrete causes a code violation. Example: A set of exterior steps end at a driveway or walk and because the grade has been lowered to allow for the concrete, the last step riser is greater than the maximum allowed by the Code or grade issue.
