CODE DEFECT:
Missing foundation anchors.
Improper anchors.
Improper installation.

Section 403
“Exterior walls of houses on foundation systems with more
that 30 inches of unbalanced fill, and slab on grade houses
shall be anchored to the foundation system or slab with at
least ½” diameter bolts placed 6 feet on center and not
more than 12 inches from corners. Bolts shall extend a
minimum of 15 inches into masonry or 7 inches into
concrete.” Metal wall strap anchors are allowed, but for
installation
requirements,
the
manufacturer
recommendations shall be followed.
Approved Application:
Floors must be anchored and connected to restrain the top of the wall; the bottom must be
restrained at the footing by concrete floor slab, keyed footing or mechanical anchorage
(reinforcing steel). See attached illustrations for approved methods.
