CODE ISSUES FROM PREVIOUS MEETING Bonding of CSST piping. The following was discussed at the consistency meeting; however this is not effective until all issues have been resolved. Tentative date: 9/1/2007 CSST bonding is required by the manufacture of the CSST piping system. CSST bonding is not required by the NEC Bonding of CSST piping systems shall be installed using each manufactures instructions of each specific type of CSST piping. The following requirements apply to all installations of CSST piping (residential, commercial, industrial, and intuitional) The bonding of CSST piping shall be done by a licensed electrical contractor holding a NC state electrical license in the SP-SF, Limited, Intermediate, or Unlimited category. SP-PH electrical license is not qualified to bond CSST piping. The building or electrical permit issued for the connection of A/C units and dwelling units do not provide for the connection of bonding of the CSST piping. This is an additional requirement not included in the normal scope of work. Additional permit(s) are required for the bonding of CSST piping. It shall be the responsibility of the Mechanical contractor to provide the electrical contractor and the electrical inspector the installation instructions for each and every CSST piping installation. Each piece of CSST piping shall be required to be bonded back to the service per the manufactures instructions, even if this means bonding each piece separately and individually. Care should be taken to read and follow the manufactures instructions. It is the Mechanical contractor’s responsibility to hire an Electrical contractor to perform the bonding of the CSST pipe or inform the customer of this requirement by the manufacture. Effective ( ) all CSST piping will be required to be permitted and inspected per the manufactures instructions, no matter when it was installed. Does the water have to be running through the water system for temporary power? Many years ago because of the death of a CMUD employee to assure that no additional accidents would happen; CMUD requested that we make sure that the water pipe system was a completed system. It was agreed that the inspection department would require water on the system to assure that it had been tied into the city. Wirenut approval: Wire range (size and number of conductors) should be installed per the manufactures specifications. AGENDA Delta Hi Leg Systems: Roger Brown What is the policy on replacing a damaged meter can when the old existing SE cable exceeds the permissible length of unfused conductor? Is replacing the meter can only sufficient or should a panel also be installed so that the old SE will have overcurrent protection? Is it permissible to use Table 310.15 (B) (6) on a feeder to a sub panel at a single family residence? Is a new circuit required to be run on a water heater replacement that is fed with an existing non-grounded circuit or is it permissible to run a separate ground wire to the nearest grounding electrode? Next Meeting: August 1, 2007
