Conceptualisation Activity When starting a new research project, it is important that you consider the data management requirements and implications for all of the expected research outputs that you will be creating. Using either the five research outputs that you were asked to bring along to the course as samples of the kind of data you work with; or by selecting five items from the sample data set provided; or by choosing five items from the internet, please complete the following form making specific reference to the particular items as necessary. Once you have finished the activity, please save it to your USB stick for future reference. Who is your funding body? Do they have any specific requirement on access to you research outputs over time? Does your funding body require deposit to a specific data centre for this research outputs? What is the type of research outputs are you creating (data set, image, publication)? Please list all. Will your data draw upon existing data? If so, do require special permissions to use it? Will this cost money? If you are part of a research team, have you specified who owns the rights to the data collected by the team? Who is the intended end user for these research outputs? What additional information do you think you would need to provide along with these research outputs for it to be useable – both now and in the future? Who will be involved in the creation of these research outputs (collaborators, IT specialists, information specialists, other)? Please specify for each item. At what stage(s) will they need to be involved and who will make contact to ensure that this happens? Please specify for each item. Do you have access to specialist advice regarding file formats, metadata, appropriate standards, etc… within your projects staff or institution? If so, can you describe where this expertise is located within your project/institution. Will these research outputs be publicly available following the project? Please specify for each. If not, what access restrictions do you envisage for these research outputs? How will you ensure that these restrictions are made explicit for each item? If you are not required to deposit your data to a specified data centre, do you anticipate depositing this research output to any other data centre or repository for long-term archiving? If so, which data centre(s) or repository do you anticipate making the deposit to? Does your institution have facilities that can be used to archive your data failing deposit into a specified or other selected data centre or repository?
