Data Management in Geodise Architecture Aims - to provide secure, reliable and easy to use data management services for engineering applications running on the Grid. Solution - Geodise Database Toolbox Store data with descriptive metadata Standard and user-defined application specific metadata are stored to database (Oracle9i). Familiar interface for engineers (Matlab) Work with functions and variables rather than underlying XML, SOAP, SQL, XPath, etc. Client Grid Geodise Database Toolbox Matlab Functions Globus Server GridFTP Java clients CoG Geodise Database Web Services Apache SOAP Location Service SOAP Authorisation Service GUI SOAP Metadata Database Metadata Archive & Query Services Archive files and variables to central or local repositories. Central – certificate based access via secure Web services; shared by distributed authorised users. Local – standalone for personal use, no Internet connection required. Query over metadata to locate required data efficiently. Script based query and interactive GUI interface with hyperlink support. Case-sensitive/insensitive search on exact or similar values. Authorised data retrieval based on logical identities rather than on physical locations. © Geodise Project, University of Southampton, 2001-2004. http://www.geodise.org/ Geodise Data Management Implementation To increase the usability of file and metadata management services for Engineers we have implemented a MATLAB Toolbox for archiving, querying and retrieval of data to and from a Geodise repository.
