Designing for e-Science: Interrogating new
scientific practice for usability, in the lab and
beyond.
e-Science Institute 26th – 27th January 2006
The workshop brought together researchers from computer science, physical
sciences and social sciences to consider issues in usability for e-Science
systems and approaches.
The discussions generated a suite of areas for further consideration:
•
•
•
•
•
infrastructure, security, trust and policy
taxonomies for approaches to design
design methods
case studies of best practice for practitioners
new modes of and expectations for gathering, sharing and publishing data
Many of these streams fed into the development of a call for papers for a special
issue on usability and e-Science to be featured in the International Journal of
Human Computer Systems.
There are also plans to work with NeSC to develop a web presence to continue
the discussions started at the workshop, online.
