Exploratory Study
Mohammad Rokibul Kabir *, Mohammad Afjalur Rahman** and Mohammad
Yunus***
Management accountants must choose the right tools for the
specific context to make a decision based on their technical
knowledge, professional experience and judgment. Keeping the
necessity of management accounting in accurate decision
making for the business and lack of researches in this area,
especially in Bangladesh, this study aims at exploring the
extent to which the listed pharmaceutical companies in
Bangladesh are practicing management accounting tools in
making
managerial
decisions.
A
self-administrated
questionnaire had been developed and distributed among the
management accountants of the sample companies to identify
their current level of management accounting practices. The
survey includes 11 categories of management accounting tools
in applications which are split into operational, managerial and
strategic groups. Results were subsequently analyzed by using
statistical tools. The survey revealed that management
accountants use a number of tools, on average 35, across a
wide range of operational, managerial and strategic functions.
This demonstrates the wide range of organizational
performance for which the management accountant can
provide data.
