Future Agenda for Logistics Studies in ASEAN Countries

This article presents the synthesis and review of the previous published work in the
logistics domain of study. The aim of this paper is to provide a taxonomy of logistics
research and based on that, to develop future research avenue in this field of the
study. The review of logistics research is based on papers published in peer-reviewed
journals within the field. Major findings indicate that there is a great number of
research on the logistics issue in a Western country compared to non Western
context such as South East Asia including ASEAN and Malaysia. The logistics
research is still a dearth in Malaysia and ASEAN and lack of theoretical foundation.
For the future study, we hint that future research in logistics should be more
normative, theory-driven and the number of case based and qualitative method
increased. Also a further empirical research on 3PL, 4PL, 5PL, Halal logistics, Green
Logistics and Women in logistics is significantly needed especially in ASEAN context.
