BOARD BRIEFS REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 17, 2015 HUNTLEY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT 158 BOARD OF EDUCATION IL SCHOOL REPORT CARDS RELEASED Include results from first year of PARCC testing The Huntley Community School District 158 Board of Education heard a report on the District and school reports cards released by the State of Illinois earlier this month. The report cards include the results from the first year of administering the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) test. Chief Academic Officer Erika Schlichter cautioned that the PARCC data for some schools across the state diverges, sometimes sharply, from previous score results. At this time it is not possible to know the reasons for those shifts in scores. In addition, because this was a baseline year for administration of PARCC, the District has no equivalent longitudinal results to use for comparison. For these reasons, the Administration has approached analysis of the results with caution and acknowledges that it is difficult to draw conclusions related to trends. However, as with all assessments, the District will continue to analyze results at the student level in order to identify areas of need and to reinforce our focus on continuous improvement. The report cards are available on the Huntley 158 website at http://www.district158.org/2015-report-card/. December 17, 2015 Volume 2, Issue 11 BOARD APPROVES 2015 PROPERTY TAX LEVY The Board approved extending the 2015 Levy with the Consumer Price Index increase of .8% in accordance with Property Tax Extension Limitation Law (PTELL). With CPI at .8% for Levy Year 2015 (tax bills paid in 2016), before new construction, the District will extend some $450k in additional operating property taxes in accordance with PTELL. Additional dollars will be levied for new construction, which has no impact on existing homeowners. At .8%, a homeowner with a $200,000 home will see an approximate $28 increase in the property tax bill for the school district. Please note, exclusive of the .8%, taxpayers should be aware that individual bills may go up or down based on individual assessments as determined by the township assessor. Primarily driven by an increase in assessed values, combined with the .8% CPI, the operating funds capped tax rate is expected to decrease to approximately $5.09, down from last year’s $5.24. The total tax rate, which includes the Bond & Interest Fund, is expected to approximate $5.87, down from prior year’s $5.97.
