REQUEST FOR EXPRESSION OF INTEREST
2013 Pilot Project: Sustainable Bus Shelter Components

Dear Service Provider:
Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) is now soliciting for interest for our “2013 Pilot Project:
Sustainable Bus Shelter Components” project.
In 2012, in an effort to promote the energy sector and local energy companies, the Charlotte Regional
Partnership’s energy division approached CLT on the possibility of a Pilot Project at the airport
integrating the latest energy-efficient lighting from local companies in the Charlotte-Metro area. Once the
pilot was completed and due to its success, this inspired CLT to establish yearly pilot projects for
public/private partnerships and incorporate more sustainability projects in the organization and provide
tangible & educational examples to the local community.

2013 Pilot Project Overview: CLT will allocate the Q bus shelter of the long term #1 parking lot for
sustainability integration. CLT has partnered with Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) to
specify the components that will be accepted for this project. Any one or all components may be included
in the expression of interest submitted to CLT.
Submittal Instructions & Format:
This is an informal request and CPCC will determine which responses to accept. The responses can be for
materials and/or installation. If installation is included with materials, please place both as a separate line
item. Together with your response, provide 1-3 similar example projects the company has completed and
a short Bio about the company that is no more than 2 pages.
Preference in selection will be given to:

Low cost or in-kind donation

Company proximity to the Charlotte-Metro area

High quality product

High percentage of product made in the USA in compliance with ARRA

All responses are due to the CLT Center at 5601 Wilkinson Blvd Charlotte, North Carolina 28208, no
later than September 30th 2013 at 3:00pm. CLT will email and/or call the selected firm(s) by October
25th, 2013.
One (1) electronic copy of the response on a CD or flash drive in a searchable format such as MS Word or
Adobe Acrobat and one (1) unbound original Proposal must be submitted in a sealed envelope plainly
marked with the service description as follows:

2013 Sustainable Bus Shelter Components
1) 1 renewable energy storage system that is UL certified and capable of lasting a minimum of 72hours from a power consuming load equivalent to 50-watts
2) 1-2 Direct Current (DC) capable LED light fixture(s)
3) 1 or more solar PV panel(s) that is/are UL certified and capable of running a power consuming
load equivalent to 50-watts and charging a battery storage system for 72 hours.
4) 1 solar compacting waste/recycle bin that is similar to the product made by “BigBelly Solar”
5) 1 light box that is UL certified and similar in dimensions and aesthetics to the attached example
in this packet
6) 1 solar streetlight/parking lot light that is UL certified and is capable of being installed by a
direct-bury method.
