Jose V. Torres, Ph.D. Clinical Interests José V. Torres' research laboratory is dedicated to the design, development and testing of new types of vaccines against HIV and other viruses that use antigenic variation to avoid recognition and evade elimination by the human immune system. Ongoing projects include development and testing of vaccines against the variability of HIV and overcoming MHC restriction; induction of cellular and mucosal immune responses using live recombinant viral and bacterial vectors; and study of the molecular mechanisms of retroviral pathology, nucleic acid and cancer vaccines. Our activities also include development of new therapeutic approaches designed to overcome drug resistance. Techniques covering immunology, molecular biology, virology, and biochemistry are integral parts of the research program.
