Robert Thornberry, Lucent Technologies, Bell Labs, is Director, Lucent Network Security Office in
the Chief Technology Office in Naperville, Illinois, United States. In this position, he is responsible
for security technology strategies and coordination of Lucent network and product security. Prior to
his current assignment, Mr. Thornberry has held a number of architecture, development, and
planning positions focused on next generation networks and security. His professional interests
include next generation networks, network security, and homeland security. Mr. Thornberry holds
an A.A. degree in electronics technology from Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland, a B.S.
degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland in College Park, and an M.S.
degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the University of California at Berkeley.
He holds seven patents and is a member of the IEEE and a member of the Eta Kappa Nu and Tau
Beta Pi honor societies.
