Schuylkill River Restoration Fund 2011 Grant Awards and Project Descriptions Grant Recipient Project Grant Amount Project Description Berks County Conservancy Agricultural Improvements – 3 Berks County Farms $97,755 This project will address agricultural remediation issues and implement best management practices on three farms in Berks County. It will include installation of streambank fencing, animal crossings and manure storage facilities, as well as native tree plantings and riparian buffer restoration. Grant Recipient Project Grant Amount Project Description Berks County Conservancy Oley Hills Land Protection Project $4,000 This project will provide assistance in the conservation of a 78-acre property in Pike Township, Berks County. Through a partnership with the landowner this property will receive a full conservation easement. Grant Recipient Project Grant Amount Project Description Greening Greenfield Green Roof Installation $50,000 A green roof will be installed at the Albert M. Greenfield School in Philadelphia. This project will allow for the continued management of stormwater runoff at this location and will have immediate impact on the watershed and will also continue to provide a safe and healthy learning environment for students. Grant Recipient Project Grant Amount Project Description Maidencreek Township Willow Creek Habitat Restoration $30,000 The township will work to restore streambank stabilization and riparian buffers to a 1.4 mile section of Willow Creek. Six acres of riparian buffer will be restored, and approximately 1,500 native trees and shrubs will be planted. Grant Recipient Project Grant Amount Project Description Montgomery County Conservation District Schuylkill Action Students – Stony Creek Restoration $55,000 This project will install stormwater best management practices and stabilize eroded streambanks along a tributary to the Stony Creek. It will also provide educational support and opportunities for East Norriton Middle School students and the surrounding community. Grant Recipient Project Grant Amount Project Description Schuylkill Headwaters Association Wagner Run Project $99,450 This project will stabilize the stream channel of Wagner Run in order to prevent water from flowing into the local mine pool and exiting as part of the Pine Knot abandoned mine drainage. It will reduce non-point source pollution, improving water quality and habitat for wildlife and fisheries. Grant Recipient Project Grant Amount Project Description The Schuylkill Project Shawmont Restoration Project $60,000 The Shawmont waterfront is an important location for managing stormwater in Northwest Philadelpiha. This project will help Shawmont neighbors, Philadelphia Water Department, and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation to work together on preserving and improving this waterfront and natural greenway. Grant recipients were selected by a committee made up of representatives from Exelon, the Delaware River Basin Commission, Philadelphia Water Department, Environmental Protection Agency, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, Partnership for the Delaware Estuary and the Schuylkill River Heritage Area.
