1. The Center For Democracy And Community Development- Jerusalem– Policy, research
Founded in 1997,The Center for Democracy and Community Development is a non-profit
Palestinian NGO based in Jerusalem amid at: disseminating the concepts and experiences of
community –based participatory democracy; promoting the practices and theories of just peace in
the Palestinian community North Africa, and the countries of West Asia ; encouraging the
participation of marginalized groups in the decision – making processes ; working with children ,
youth, women, and community groups to improve society ; developing exchange programs ,
research project ; and policy initiatives for the purpose of community building , training ,
empowerment , and rehabilitation; and coordinating with all local, regional and global institutions
that conduct related work.

Dates and Hours: Interns will work 4 day a week from 8:00-3:00; minimum 12 weeks
2. Avraham Harman Institute of Contemporary Jewry – History, Comparative and Regional
Studies
A research center that focuses on the development of new thoughts and attitudes regarding the
research of the contemporary Jewish world. The institute houses several archives and
documentation centers.

Dates and Hours: early May to early August; Sundays-Thursdays, 8:30am-3:00pm
Examples of past internship work: Wrote grants and abstracts for interviews about the Holocaust for the
Oral History Department. Involved in the digitization process of archival material.
3. Moshe Dayan Center for Middle Eastern & African Studies at Tel Aviv University – Peace
and conflict resolution, history, research, communications
The Center is an interdisciplinary research center devotes to the study of the modern history and
contemporary affairs of the Middle East and Africa. Through research, publications, conferences,
documentary collections, and public service, it seeks to inform civil society and promote dialogue on
the complexities of the ever-changing Middle East. In doing so, the Center hopes to advance peace
through understanding.

An internship with the Moshe Dayan Center provides a unique experience to work intimately with a
group of world-renowned scholars and experts in Middle Eastern and African Studies. Customarily,
our interns arrive at the Center with a particular research project in mind and work closely with one
of our Research Fellows whose specialization coincides with the interests of the intern. Interns can
choose or be delegated to work on one of our multimedia projects. These include the audiovisual
library, and our monthly podcast Diwaniyya, We may ask interns to provide assistance or input in
one or more of these projects during the internship period.
Interns may also be asked to contribute an academic article to Tel Aviv Notes, a bi-monthly online
publication of the Moshe Dayan Center, which provides insight and analysis on current affairs and
broader developments in the region.
Preferred Skills: background and strong interest in Middle Eastern Studies; mastery in English
required, knowledge of other languages (Arabic, Farsi, Turkish, and Hebrew) are a plus
Dates: May through August (negotiable)
Application: students should submit a research project proposal along with other application
materials
Example of past internship work: Conducted research and searched for appropriate academic reviewers for
new books, tracked and edited articles for quarterly review book
4. Ben-Zvi Institute – History, archives, culture
An institution created by the Knesset for the purpose of continuing the educational and cultural
activities of Israel’s second president, Yitzak Ben-Zvi whose main field of interest was the Jewish
communities of Asia and Africa.

Preferred Skills: French, German, or Arabic language skills a plus
Dates and Hours: Start date flexible, work Sunday-Thursday
Examples of past internship work: Researched archival material, created reports and abstracts about Jews in
North Africa during WWII for the YBZ online database.
