ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Injuries, trauma, sudden illness—medical emergencies can happen at any time, in any
place. Survival often depends on the initial care the injured or severely ill person
receives at the scene. If you are calm under pressure, compassionate, good at problem
solving, and have the desire to help people in need, a career as an Emergency Medical
Technician (EMT) may be an excellent choice for you.

• Use essential ambulance and other emergency equipment.
• Identify and treat common medical conditions and emergencies.
• Identify and treat common injuries, wounds, and burns.
• Utilize stretchers, long boards, and other devices used for moving patients.
• Solve problems in assessing, stabilizing, and transporting patients with various
illnesses and injuries.
• Identify medical/legal problems an EMT may face.
