POLICY: It is the policy of MJI that any degree or certificate seeking student who fails to enroll or attend at all, during any three consecutive semesters (a twelve months period), will be considered a "former degree student" and his/her records will be moved from active to inactive record files. Former degree students must re-apply for admission to MJI in order to continue in their prior program or begin a new one. Readmission applications should be submitted as soon as possible but no later than 30 days prior to the date of desired enrollment. Former students returning should be aware that enrollment restrictions may be imposed at any time, which may affect their readmission. A non-refundable application fee will be charged and must accompany all applications. All MJI “Admissions” and “Registrar’s” staffs will be oriented on this policy and procedure and will make it part of their records management activities. PROCESS: Readmission for Students Eligible to Continue 1. Students who were eligible to continue at MJI at the time of leaving and who have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on all courses taken at MJI are eligible to be readmitted to their former academic program, provided the program has the capacity to accept additional students. A student who was eligible to continue at the time of leaving MJI and who has subsequently completed academic work at other post-secondary institutions may be able to transfer all or some of those earned credits to their MJI program. Transferability of credits will be determined by the MJI Academic Catalog and Student Handbook current at the time of readmission. 3. A student who was still eligible to continue at the time of leaving MJI but whose cumulative or last MJI semester grade point average was less than 2.0 on all courses taken at MJI will be considered for readmission to MJI based on the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards described in the MJI Academic Catalog and Student Handbook current at the time readmission is sought. 4. Former students returning who desire a change of curriculum must be accepted into the desired new program based upon current matriculation requirements for the new program as described in the MJI Academic Catalog and Student Handbook current at the time readmission is sought. A new program plan will be created for the student, attempting to maximize course credits previously earned. However, students should be aware that some previously taken required courses for other curricula and programs may be changed to elective credits, depending on the requirements of the newly selected program. 5. Former students whose financial accounts with MJI are in arrears must make payment arrangements acceptable to MJI before readmission will be possible. 6. For purposes of computing SAP “Maximum Time Frame” to completion, students reenrolling within six semesters of leaving MJI (two calendar years) will have their original enrollment date used. Students reenrolling in MJI after a break longer than six semesters will have their new enrollment date used for determining Maximum Time Frame to completion. Readmission for Expelled Students Any student expelled from MJI for a variety of reasons (such as but not limited to: criminal activity, academic misconduct (e.g., chronic plagiarism), misuse of MJI technology or other resources, etc. (see other MJI policies describing all these) will not be readmitted to the college for no less than five years after the expulsion. Thereafter, readmission will only be possible via “special considerations” on the part of the college President and/or the Dean of Academic Administration. There will be absolutely no possibility of readmission within the five year period subsequent to expulsion. Notice of Readmission Once a student has received notice of readmission, the student should immediately register for the upcoming semester and pay all required registration fees, tuitions due (as arranged for) and any other fees as may apply.
