Christine Ortiz

My name is Christine Ortiz; I was born in Fresno, California. I am the 3rd of 8 children born to
Jessie and Elena Ortiz. I was the first one in my family to attend graduate school and obtain a
PhD in Nursing and the second nurse in the family after my mother. I obtained my Certificate in
Nursing from Fresno City College in 1977, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Gerontology
Certificate at California State University, Fresno in 1988. I completed my Master’s and PhD in
Nursing at University California, San Francisco, School of Nursing. I have worked at Valley
Medial Center as a Staff nurse on a pre and post op ward and Critical Care nurse from 1977 –
1988, Fresno Public Health Dept. for 5 months in 1989, and Home Health and Hospice Nurse
from 1989 -2001 as a Staff nurse and in Quality Assurance in San Francisco and Oakland, CA.
Presently, I am an Assistant Professor at CSUF in the Nursing Dept.
