Kristine Kanne Barr FSC 1965 Briefly tell about your family history: My name is Kristine Barr, I was born in Cleveland, Ohio. I was the 1st of 6 children born to William and Anne Kanne. I was the 1st to go to college in my family. I graduated from FSC/CSUF in 1965. I obtained a BS degree at California State University, Fresno. I married Ronald Barr (deceased), we have one child named Ronald Jr. (deceased). I worked at several hospitals as an endoscopy nurse from 1965 – current. I am a certified Gastroenterology nurse CRN. List any student nurse experiences you may remember and any faculty: I remember Fannie Sample with her cigarette holder. I also remember being given “samples” of cigarettes on campus by reps. from tobacco companies. How do you feel about nursing then and now, and in the future? It has stood me in good stead as I have been widowed 10 years and able to support myself. There have been times I have wished for something new and different, but generally I have been satisfied with my father’s choice of a career for me. Any bits of wisdom you have learned over the years? (if you have changed profession, how has your nursing education helped?) Buy extra malpractice insurance. Don’t depend on your hospital to defend you if you have been sued. They are looking out for the hospital only. (Not me – an observation made at a previous hospital).
