Currently posted Internal Deadlines: http://www.kstate.edu/research/funding/bulletins/ bul12/limits12/index.htm Vol. 21, No. 32 32-2 Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury Research Program (DoD) Applications to the Fiscal Year 2012 (FY12) Psychological Health and Traumatic Brain Injury (PH/TBI) Research Program (RP) are being solicited by the United States Army Medical Research Acquisitions Activity (USAMRAA). The PH/TBI Research Program was established in FY07 for the purpose of complementing ongoing Department of Defense (DoD) efforts toward promoting a better standard of care for PH (including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and TBI in the areas of prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation. This includes research to benefit Service Members, their family members, Veterans, and other beneficiaries of the Military Health System (MHS). A preproposal is required. Applications must specifically address the following research area: Identify and Characterize Mechanisms of Traumatic Brain Injuryrelated Neurodegenerative Diseases, including chronic traumatic encephalopathy, with emphasis on those mechanisms of injury that may be amendable to targeted therapy approaches, including biomarkers that would identify mechanistic targets of therapeutic approaches. The FY 2012 RFA has now been combined with the FY 2013 RFA and funding amounts have been increased. For the combined FY 2012/ 2013 RFA, the new due date for letters of intent will be September 17, 2012. The new application due date will be December 5, 2012. This modification will allow NIFA to meet the needs of the food safety and related sciences research community by increasing the amount of funds available, while enabling the program to establish a new timeline for the release of future RFAs. This AFRI Challenge Area promotes and enhances the scientific discipline of food safety, with an overall aim of protecting consumers from microbial and chemical contaminants that may occur during all stages of the food chain, from production to consumption. This requires an understanding of the interdependencies of human, animal, and ecosystem health as it pertains to foodborne pathogens. The long-term outcome for this program is to reduce foodborne illnesses and deaths by improving the safety of the food supply, The MURI program supports basic research in science and engineering at U.S. institutions of higher education that is of potential interest to DoD. The program is focused on multidisciplinary research efforts where more than one traditional discipline interact to provide rapid advances in scientific areas of interest to the DoD. As defined by the DoD, basic research is systematic study directed toward greater knowledge or understanding of the fundamental aspects of phenomena and of observable facts without specific applications towards processes or products in mind. It includes all scientific study and experimentation directed toward increasing fundamental knowledge and understanding in those fields of the physical, engineering, environmental, and life sciences related to long-term national security needs. The program is supported by a generous grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The aim of this fellowship program is to offer small teams of two or more scholars the opportunity to collaborate intensively on a single, substantive project. The fellowship supports projects that aim to produce a tangible research product (such as joint print or web publications) for which two or more collaborators will take credit. The fellowships are for a total period of up to 24 months, to be initiated between July 1, 2013 and September 1, 2015, and provide salary replacement for each collaborator. URL: http://www.acls.org/programs/ collaborative/ Deadline: 10/2/2012 32-5 Charles A. Ryskamp Research Fellowships (ACLS) ACLS invites applications for the Charles A. Ryskamp Research Fellowships, generously funded by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in memory of Charles A. Ryskamp, literary scholar, distinguished library and museum director, and longserving trustee of the Foundation. These fellowships support advanced assistant professors and untenured associate professors in the humanities and related social sciences whose scholarly contributions have advanced their fields and who have well-designed and carefully developed plans for new research. The fellowships are intended to provide time and resources to enable these faculty members to conduct their research under optimal conditions. The ultimate goal of the project should be a major piece of scholarly work by the applicant. ACLS does not fund creative work (e.g., novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translation, or pedagogical projects. The ultimate goal of the project should be a major piece of scholarly work by the applicant. ACLS does not fund creative work (e.g., novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translation, or pedagogical projects. The ACLS Fellowships are intended as salary replacement to help scholars devote six to twelve continuous months to full-time research and writing. ACLS Fellowships are portable and are tenable at the fellow’s home institution, abroad, or at another appropriate site for research. An ACLS Fellowship may be held concurrently with other fellowships and grants and any sabbatical pay, up to an amount equal to the candidate’s current academic year salary. Tenure of the fellowship may begin no earlier than July 1, 2013 and no later than February 1, 2014. The rush to adopt cyberspace, however, has exposed its fragility and vulnerabilities: corporations, agencies, national infrastructure and individuals have been victims of cyber-attacks. The CyberCorps: Scholarship for Service (SFS) program seeks proposals that address cybersecurity education and workforce development. The Scholarship Track provides funding to award scholarships to students in cybersecurity. In return for their scholarships, recipients will work after graduation for a Federal, State, Local, or Tribal Government organization in a position related to cybersecurity for a period equal to the length of the scholarship. The Capacity Track seeks innovative propos- als leading to an increase in the ability of the United States higher education enterprise to produce cybersecurity professionals. This FOA encourages studies on the roles of peripheral and extra suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) circadian clocks during aging. These studies include understanding the impact of alterations in the clock system on chromatin remodeling, gene expression, translation, signaling, and function of individual cells. In addition, studies are solicited on the pathophysiology of alterations to circadian clock regulation in aged tissues, with particular attention to the response of the clock system to metabolic/nutritional, environmental and pharmacological challenges. The goal of these studies is to test the hypotheses about effects of sustained caloric restriction (CR) on protective and risk factors for aging processes and diseases associated with aging, psychological effects and safety of CR, and other specific candidate hypotheses based on pre-clinical animal and cell culture data on mechanisms affecting aging. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply tools capturing an integrated, global picture of the effects of CR on multiple systems simultaneously. These approaches may include screening in domains such as the proteome, metabolome, transcriptome, and others.
