With Diverse Populations (NIH)

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is committed to supporting research that will increase scientific understanding of the health status of various population groups and lead to more effective health interventions and services for individuals within these groups. High priority is placed on research with groups that appear to have distinctive health risk profiles but thus far have received insufficient attention from investigators. This Program Announcement highlights a particular set of such groups: lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, and related populations (designed here as LGBT populations). PA-01-096

The Harvard University Center for Ethics and the Professions encourages teaching and research about ethical issues in public life and the professions. Its resident Fellowships support outstanding teachers and scholars who wish to develop their ability to address questions of moral choice in such areas as business, education, government, law, and medicine Preference will be given to applicants at an early stage of their careers, normally no more than ten years from the terminal degree in their field.

36-3 Cancer Prevention, Control,

Behavioral and Population Sciences

Career Development Award (NIH)

The purpose of the Cancer Prevention,

Control, Behavioral and Population Sciences Career Development Award (K07) is to support the career development of investigators who have made a commitment to focus their research endeavors on cancer prevention, control, behavioral and the population sciences. This mechanism provides support for three to five years of specialized didactic study and mentored research for individuals with a health professional or science doctoral degree who are not fully established investigators.

Examples of relevant disciplines for this

PA include any aspect of human cancer prevention (modifiable risk factors, new animal models and extrapolation of these models to human cancer, genetic predisposition to cancer and detection of precursor lesions, and behavioral research and behavioral intervention trials in cancer prevention), epidemiology (biochemical, genetic, molecular), biostatistics, human cancer genetics, human nutrition, behavioral and social sciences, health promotion, health services and health policy research. The Witter Bynner Foundation is interested in promoting poetry as an important element in a balanced society. To that end, the Foundation encourages proposals which expand awareness of the possibilities of poetry in the lives of people. The

Foundation supports programs that reaffirm our sense of community, respect for the natural world, and the free exchange of ideas, feelings, and concerns within the global community. Of interest is the development of transferable model programs which use poetry as a vehicle to deal with specific social, educational, and therapeutic concerns, and the nuturing of emerging poetic voices as well as established poets from diverse cultures.

Hagley/Winterthur Fellowships is a cooperative program of short- to medium-term research fellowships for scholars interested in the historical and cultural relationships between economic life and the arts, including design architecture, crafts, and the fine arts. Fellows receive a stipend, make use of the rich research collections of both Winterthur Museums, Gardens and

Library and the Hagley Museum and

Library. These fellowships are available to both degree candidates and senior scholars, as well as applicants without advanced degrees.

The Bibliographical Society of America

(BSA) invites applications for its annual short-term fellowship program, which supports bibliographical inquiry as well as research in the history of the book trades and in publishing history. Eligible topics may concentrate on books and documents in any field, but should focus on the book or manuscript (the physical object) as historical evidence. Such topics may include establishing a text or studying the history of book production, publication, distribution, collecting, or reading.
