There was a time when information and communication technology skills were only relevant to and required by those who worked in the IT industry – the so-called ‘geeks’ of yesteryear – For the rest of us, ICT know-how was something almost esoteric, safely ignored and mostly unwanted. How times have changed! Today information technologies inform almost every aspect of our lives. We rely on a ready stream of information to keep us in touch and on top; we are always in always-on mode. ICT skills matter to everyone, irrespective of the sector. To drive innovation, spur creativity and retain competitiveness while fostering inclusion, we can no longer afford to undervalue the importance of ICT skills; they are the key to success and the passport to the future of people, organisations and regions. We are all geeks now, at least partially, in our jobs, or at least we are supposed to become! Microsoft Malta is organising an eSkills day, on May 13th, 2010 to highlight the importance of eSkills as a driver of productivity, competitiveness and innovation in our economy. Please join us and learn how Microsoft is striving to ensure that the knowledge, skills and competences of the Maltese workforce meet the highest standards.
