ADDED VALUE UNIT Podcast activity As part of a unit on climate change learners are asked to investigate flooding in Bangladesh. This is a group work activity where learners are asked to script a news report for a radio station on the impact of flooding in Bangladesh. The y will record this as a podcast using Audacity, Garage Band or similar tools. Learners work in groups of four and each member of the group takes on a different role: news reporter, geographical consultant, local farmer or local government representative. Learners are provided with two sources of information : a textbook and a video. A class discussion on the best way to take notes should encourage learners to focus on the information that is relevant to their character. Learners are given a writing frame to help them script their news report. Once the groups have recorded their podcasts they will then be played to the rest of the class and learners will undertake a peer assessment using the evaluation grid.
