1) New Short Trip
Accounting
A. ACCT-526 Global Accounting Experience (1.5)
Eff. Spring 2013
Cross-border transactions in the global economy examining accounting, legal, and tax
environments, economic and political systems, and cultural differences. Includes
international travel to selected region.
Approved for 3 Years. Students in ACCT-526 will spend 10 days abroad during Spring
Break. The spring 2013 trip will be to China.
Chair Comments: ACCT 526 prepares the students well for the trip and integrates the
experience into the learning objectives. It is approved for 3 years.
II. DORNSIFE COLLEGE OF LETTERS, ARTS, & SCIENCES
1) Review of Short Trip
International Relations
Eff. Spring 2013
A. IR-404 International Relations Policy Task Force:
Rethinking U.S.-Cuban Relations (4)
Addresses unfinished question of public policy. Provides experiences in interviewing
and field research, oral presentation and collective discussion and deliberation. Open
to Juniors and Seniors only.
Approved and Renewed for 3 Years. Students will spend 10 days in Cuba as part of IR404.
Chair Comments: The IR 404 Cuba course is well organized and provides students with
all relevant information.
2) New International Summer Program
A. PWP Cuba: SPAN-499 The Cuban World: Discourse and
Identity (4)

Approved for 1 Year. Course is approved by OSP, but is pending approval by Special
Topics. Students spend 1 week at USC and 3 weeks in Cuba.
Chair Comments: The PWP Cuba (SPAN) program is a good alternative to the existing
program in Cuba
3) Review of Semester/Year Programs
A. CIEE Taipei (East Asian Languages and Culture)
Office of Overseas Studies
Eff. Fall 2013
Approved and Renewed for 5 Years. Students spend a semester (fall or spring) at
National Chengchi University in Taipei, Taiwan.
Chair Comments: Despite the low number of participating students, the program is a
great opportunity for language immersion.
B. London School of Economics
Eff. Fall 2013
Approved and Renewed for 5 Years. Students spend one year at the London School of
Economics.
Chair Comments: The LSE program for Dornsife is very detailed and rigorous.
C. Syracuse University Florence Program
Eff. Fall 2013
Approved and Renewed for 5 Years: Students spend a semester or year at the Syracuse
University Florence Program.
Chair Comments: The Syracuse University Florence program has a good record of
success and is well-organized.
III. ROSSIER SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
1) New Short Trip
Education
A. EDUC-606 (1) International Studies Seminar
Eff. Fall 2012
Analyzing educational challenges and opportunities in international and global
contexts. Understanding the global context of international education and issues facing
international and global urban education. Course includes an overseas trip.
Approved for 3 Years. As part of EDUC-606, students will spend 10 days in one of
eight locations: Bangkok, Beijing, Botswana, Hanoi, Hong Kong, Manila, Shangahi, and
Taipei.

Chair Comments: EDUC 606 is well-designed and provides a lot of information for the
students' safety. OSP asks for specific itineraries for each location when that country
appears in the rotation.
