OSP hopes these are addressed in this year’s program. B. Graduate-level Study Abroad Program—France (2-8, max 8) Eff. Fall 2013 Approved and Renewed for 5 Years. Chair Comments: Approved. 2) New Short Trip A. ARCH-605b Graduate Architecture Design (Japan) (6) Eff. Summer 2013 Approved for 3 Years. Chair Comments: This program is well thought out and the travel details are helpful. II. DORNSIFE COLLEGE OF LETTERS, ARTS, & SCIENCES 1) Review of Short Trip Social Work A.SOWK-599 Special Topics: Global Immersion in Military Culture: U.S. Forces Abroad in Germany (4) Eff. Summer 2013 This is a brief global immersion course that will prepare students to meet the critical need for culturally-competent behavioral healthcare providers who work with military veterans. This immersion will provide students with a unique opportunity to enhance their understanding of military culture and the delivery of human services through observation of life on overseas military installations. Chair Comments: I was impressed by the program and how thoughtful the leadership was. Approved for 1 year since it is still a 599. 2) Review of International Summer Programs Biology A. BISC-428 The Biology of Tropical Diseases (4) Eff. Summer 2013 Biological and biochemical approaches to the prevention and treatment of infectious and chronic tropical diseases. Course is offered off campus and summer only. Approved and Renewed for 3 Years. Students spend 15 days in Oxford, UK. Chair Comments: Approved. A. EALC Chinese Summer Program in Taiwan (4) East Asian Languages and Cultures Eff. Summer 2013 Approved and Renewed for 5 Years. Chair Comments: The program seems to be making efforts to improve orientation. Student feedback is positive. III. USC DAVIS SCHOOL OF GERONTOLOGY 1) Review of International Summer Program A. GERO-498 Nutrition, Genes, Longevity, and Diseases (4) Effective: Summer 2013 Examines the role of nutrition and genes and the impact each has on longevity and diseases, particularly diseases related to aging. Offering in Genoa, Italy. Approved and Renewed for 3 Years. Chair Comments: Improvements cited by the program administrators (and consistently suggested by students) are strongly suggested for implementation by OSP before the next trip.
