Italian Syllabus B
Prerequisite for entry
Successful completion of Italian Syllabus A at the UCL CLIE or a similar course and have limited experience of dealing with
authentic material.
Course duration
20 x 2-hour classes.

80 hours in total.

Aims and Objectives
The aim of the course is to give students an opportunity to revise their survival skills and acquire more sophisticated ways
of dealing with practical matters. This includes revision and consolidation of vocabulary, grammar, morphology, syntax
and phonetics.
Students should be able to communicate in and understand Italian on many practical everyday matters related to various
aspects of Italian culture. Cultural awareness will be developed. Language learning skills, including autonomous learning
and how to approach authentic material, will be enhanced. Some transferable skills will also be covered.

how to describe your living accommodation;
how to describe objects;
expressing desires and possibilities;
relating past events;
talking about habits in the past;
planning for the future;
shopping (fare compere)
Course Content

describing students accommodation, house or flat, home town;

describing people, physical and personality;

school system in Italy;

fashion;




plans for the future;
telling stories and describing past events and holidays;
the weather;
throughout the course: aspects of Italian culture.
Linguistic Structures
Grammar

verb phrase: revision of conjugations, present tense, reflexive verbs, perfect and imperfect tenses (contrasted use),
modals;

future tenses: futuro semplice;

revision of piacere;

possessives;

direct and indirect object pronouns (pronomi diretti e indiretti; )

pronome partitivo ne: introduction;

la forma impersonale and espressioni impersonali;

introduction to the imperative.
