NOTICE 89-004
Foundation for Cross-Connection Control and Hydraulic Research
Approval
One of the most common questions received by the Foundation concerns the current Approval
status of a particular backflow prevention assembly. When these questions arise, the Members of the
Foundation should reference the most recent copy of the "List of Approved Backflow Prevention
Assemblies". There are time frames when a new backflow prevention assembly has just been
granted Approval, however, the updated List has not been printed and distributed yet. We encourage the Members to contact the Foundation office to confirm the status of Approval during these
interim periods.
The List of Approved Backflow Prevention Assemblies is the only document issued by the
Foundation to be referenced for Approval status. Approval notations or markings on the assemblies
themselves are not utilized in the Foundation's Specifications.
Many questions have been raised by the Members when they see wording such as:
"Meets or exceeds the requirements of the FCCCHR"
"Meets laboratory requirements of the FCCCHR"
"Complies with FCCCHR requirements"
Each of these statements could be misconstrued as meaning the assembly is Approved.
The literature or advertisements for a backflow prevention assembly shall only reference the
University's or Foundation's name when it is Approved. A statement identical or similar to the
following shall be used:
Approved by the Foundation for Crrus-Connection Conlrol and Hydraulic Research at
the University of Southern California
Should there be any questions regarding the Approval status of a particular assembly, consult the
most recent copy of the List of Approved Bacldlow Prevention Assemblies issued by the Foundation.
Any literature or advP.rtisement in question can be forwarded to the Foundation office for review.
