Module 1: Getting going with careers Information
‘Your Recommendations’: general notes
This activity asked for your opinion about resources in terms of which you would
recommend to different people who may seek your advice. By definition there is no
right or wrong answer, but here are a few notes about each scenario which may
interest you… but feel free to disagree!
A Key Stage 3 science teacher seeking to inspire students to consider the power
industry might find much to excite the group about STEM ( science, technology,
engineering and maths) career in Futuremorph, and could then move on to use
thinkpowersector – their you tube channel might prove to be a useful resource.
A parent who wants to research careers in low carbon technology may find the
parent section of Futuremorph useful as well as the section in euskills about low
carbon technology. A similar resource about the Green Economy on the National
Career Service website may be of interest as would the labour market information in
LMI Future Trends.
A colleague preparing an LMI presentation would find a great deal of useful material
in LMI Future Trends and in Prospects.ac.uk Sector Information. Many sites
including euskills, have links to useful labour market reports.
A Year 12 student interested in the oil and gas industry could gain a great deal from
looking at myoilandgascareer, as well as prospects and cogent.
A tutor seeking resources could find some in the teacher sections of Futuremorph
thinkenergy and thinkpowersector and myoilandgascareer
(education section).
An unemployed adult should use the National Careers Service and could find much
to interest them in thinkpowersector in the career changers and service leavers
sections.
A year 9 student wanting to find out more about science could look at Tomorrow’s
Engineers as well as Futuremorph for inspiration. The Power kids section of
thinkpowersector may also be of interest.
