GreenDOT Report
o Release of the GreenDOT Report: 2014 Status Update is expected for early December
o The Work Group suggested using this Report as the basis for a future communications
campaign about GreenDOT initiatives, progess, successes
o Suggested developing a one-page informational sheet to succinctly communicate the
Report’s most important content
o Group suggested that the Report be sent directly to every legislator, demonstrating value of
GreenDOT initiatives
o Report dissemination options:
 GreenDOT website, press release
 MassDOT social media (suggested: week-long Twitter campaign with one “fun fact”
per day with images, link to Report page)
 Advisory Group meeting (scheduled for December 15th)
 Additional public meetings
 Outreach through MassDOT’s Office of Civil Rights to minority populations,
environmental justice communities
 GreenDOT invited to present Report content at LivableStreets 10 in 1 StreetTalk,
December 16th, 2014
 GreenDOT invited to exhibit/present at MassRecycle’s 2015 R3 Recycling &
Organics Conference & Trade Show, March 15th, 2015 at Boston Marriott Quincy
 Other potential presentations about GreenDOT Report:
• Mass Municipal Association Annual Meeting (January 23-24th, 2015)
• MetroFuture Walks & Talks future event
•
GreenDOT Website & Communications Measures
o Interactive features suggested for GreenDOT website
 Map that is searchable by region, project type to convey GreenDOT related initiatives
• Public interest especially relates to Complete Streets
 Comment field or forum
o Other suggested communications measures
 Videos on YouTube, local cable channels
• Possibly created through student competition, following success of “Safe
Streets, Smart Trips” high school video competition
 Social media: GreenDOT Twitter and Facebook
 PSAs on highway signs
 GreenDOT messages on MBTA trains and buses
 Newsletter (quarterly or monthly) with GreenDOT updates
 Public meetings across the Commonwealth
•
Communicating Performance Measures
o Once GreenDOT performance measures are finalized by the Performance Measures
Working Group, the Communications Working Group expressed interest helping select most
important ones for a scorecard
o Scorecard could be produced quarterly or monthly with GreenDOT updates
o Measures of particular interest to the Working Group:
 Vehicle miles traveled (VMT) per capita broken down by location, so as to see trends
over time (e.g. Does VMT decrease after program to encourage kids to take school
bus or walk/bike to school?)
 Aggregate value of GreenDOT initiatives
 Information in easily-inderstood terms: gallons of gas saved, money saved, hours
saved, cars removed from the road, etc.
