1. Instruction
Renee Kilmer is out on medical leave until May. Kathie Welch and Wanda Garner will split the VPI
duties. As Dennis receives more details on who else will be covering other duties, he will advise.
2. Graduation, June 1
The schedule and information online shows a discrepancy in the deadline date for petitions to
graduate for those who wish to have their name listed in the program. It is actually April 6, not
April 7. Students may petition after that, but their names will not appear in the program. May 18
is the last day to petition for the 2011-12 graduation – no exceptions. The electronic petition will
close between May 21 and June 1.
Students need to make an appointment with a counselor two weeks in advance. It is important to
notify students of this so that they don’t wait to the last minute and miss the deadline. Tama and
Barbara Schultz will find out who closes the electronic petition. Clarification is needed on what
service “owns” the graduation petition.
3. Program Planning
Dennis gave his monthly reminder to stay on task as program plans need to be done by June.
Counseling will also go through the CIP (instruction) process in fall 2013 as they have classes.
They have already been following that format so it will not be much extra writing—also a good
opportunity to educate instructional folks on counseling.
4. Budget
The state budget situation remains status quo. There will likely be just one tax measure on the
ballot in November. The College’s budget still remains a challenge.
5. Student Success Task Force
Dennis highlighted Recommendations 2 (Strengthen Support for Entering Students) and 3
(Incentivize Successful Student Behaviors).
Number 2 is matriculation --modified, with more requirements and more mandatory focusing on
the areas of orientation, assessment, and educational plans. A common assessment tool for use
throughout the state is being evaluated as well as having one place where all community colleges
can access compiled assessment scores.
Number 3 concerns enrollment priorities, with a push for a priority for new students. There was
also discussion of a study Dennis read (and will email) that proposes assigning one contact person
on campus per student for the entire time they are here for consistency and for support.
Next meeting: April 25, 2012
