Sonali Desai, Account Manager for MAA, presented the program to SSC. MAA has been around since the 1990’s with the purpose of connecting students to Medi-Cal health insurance programs and services and to compensate colleges for the time spent referring students to
Medi-Cal. It is a federally funded program which uses school staff to help advertise Medi-Cal.
Five days (chosen by the state) out of each quarter are used for tracking referrals electronically, which are reported for reimbursement. Reimbursements are based on a pool of salaries. As an example, Student Health Services received $34,000 the first year and $26,000 last year as reimbursements for referrals they would have made anyway. Dennis stated that reimbursements will go to each program or department who participates. Sandi will coordinate the program for the component.
MAA does charge the college a fee for their services, but 50% of that fee is reimbursed.
Interested participants must receive training prior to September 17, which begins the next reporting period. Sonali will email other college’s contacts so you can discuss the program with you colleagues from other schools and see how it’s working for them. Diablo Valley, Chabot,
Evergreen, San Jose City, and Foothill/DeAnza are all participating in the MAA program. If you are interested, please let Sandi know so she can schedule training sessions.
Lori O’Keefe, Lindsay King, and Vangie Meneses gave an overview of the traditional
Educational Master Plan they will be working on through fall semester. Cabrillo’s Educational
Master Plan has not been updated since 1992. This Master Plan is different from the Strategic
Master Plan the Office of Institutional Research has worked on in that the Strategic Master
Plan focuses on goals while the Educational Master Plan will tie together other Educational
Plans and will focus on current area demographics, work trends, what students are looking for, the internal demographic of the college, Instruction and Student Services. They will be using data from Fall 2011, with our input regarding current data. The status of Program Reviews, space needs, and meeting the needs of students with decreasing funds and staff were briefly discussed and will be addressed with individuals at a later date.
The Educational Master Plan draft is projected to be complete in early 2013. Links will be posted on the Institutional Research website to read parts of the plan as they are developed.
The team will be getting input from various groups before launching a survey in the fall. The survey will be sent to staff, faculty, students, and the community. The SSC offered resources for email contacts and will send lists to Craig.
Dennis instructed the committee to email any suggested edits to him by the end of today. He also mentioned that we will begin updating all Board and Administrative Policies for Student
Services. This will be on next month’s agenda.
Dennis thanked everyone for progressing on their Program Plans. Latest status:
VPSS office: complete.
Counseling: close to finishing a draft; will be discussed at this week’s meeting and should have final draft by next week and will bring to SSC in June.
FTTW: still in draft; working on research part.
EOPS: in second draft; third draft by next week.

Student Services Council shares information and fosters dialog around student services issues, programs and services; identifying best practices that promote student success and learning outcomes. The council serves as an important avenue of information to student services staff through the student services managers, coordinators and directors .
